One of our favorite simple swaps? White vinegar.
It’s inexpensive, easy to find, and can handle quite a few everyday cleaning jobs around the home.
Think of it as your one-bottle cleaning staple.
Kitchen cleaner
Mix diluted white vinegar with water in a spray bottle for everyday cleaning on appropriate sealed surfaces.
It’s great for wiping away everyday grime, food residue, and fingerprints.
Just skip natural stone like marble and granite — vinegar’s acidity can damage them.
Bathroom cleaner
Vinegar is especially helpful for soap scum and mineral buildup.
Use it around sinks, showers, faucets, and other areas where hard-water residue tends to collect.
Spray, let it sit briefly, wipe, and rinse.
Glass & mirrors
A diluted vinegar solution can make a simple DIY glass cleaner.
Spray lightly and wipe with a microfiber cloth to help avoid streaks.
Faucet & showerhead buildup
Those cloudy white deposits around your faucet?
That’s often mineral buildup.
Soak a cloth in vinegar, wrap it around the affected area, leave it for a short time, then rinse and wipe clean.
Laundry
A little white vinegar can also be used during the rinse cycle to help with odors and mineral residue.
And unlike heavily fragranced fabric products, it doesn’t leave behind a perfume-y scent.
The important part…
Vinegar isn’t a disinfectant for every situation.
And please never mix vinegar with bleach or bleach-containing products. That combination can produce dangerous chlorine gas.
But for everyday cleaning? It can be a wonderfully simple tool to have around.
One bottle.
Several jobs.
Less clutter under the sink.
And maybe that’s the bigger lesson behind low-tox living:
You don’t have to replace everything in your home overnight.
Sometimes, you can simply buy less, simplify what you use, and make one thoughtful swap at a time. 🌿
